Slovenia is a small but magical land in the heart of the European continent. Its forests, small towns, and cities make it resemble a land that’s straight out of a fairytale. We had quick 5 days to visit Slovenia, and although we did a lot in those five days, here are the three things you should not miss while you’re there!
Visit the Metelkova Art Centre in Ljubljana
Do you like the movies by Terry Gilliam? Then you might just love Metelkova. It’s a cultural complex composed of barracks that serve as bars, nightclubs, or NGO offices. Surrealist sculptures and murals surround these buildings letting the visitor get immersed into a colorful parallel universe. There’s a lot to be told about the meaning of this center for the city’s urban culture. So make sure to read up on it, or talk to some locals to learn more!
Lake Bohinj
When people visit Slovenia, one of the central destinations they go to is lake Bled. Bled is beautiful and worth a visit. But just around 30km away, there is another lake worth the visit – lake Bohinj. Located at the bottom of the Triglav mountain range, it is surrounded by stunning nature. There’s a lot to do as well. You can hike, swim, bike, eat some of the local delicacies. You won’t get bored for sure!
Visit Piran
Slovenia does not have much of a coast. You don’t typically go there to enjoy sandy beaches and lazy holidays by the sea. But, it does have a beautiful little gem of a town near the sea called Piran. Since we went there around the end of the trip and we were already tired, we didn’t do much. We just spent the day wandering around the town’s narrow streets. Still, that was more than enough to make us fall in love with this place. We’ll sure be visiting it again when coming to Slovenia!
Traveling to Slovenia was a lot of fun! Visiting it was worth it and we can’t wait to do it again!
